While Jacob Wilson set out to prove that getting a good breakfast is key to victory, little white creatures were attacking with some vigor. But I suppose I’m getting ahead of myself here. Let us set the stage: Strasbourg! The format is Legacy and 1,365 people came out to see if they could Sneak Attack/Brainstorm/other absurd things that Legacy has to offer their way to $3,500 and a trophy that looks like it was designed by Chandra. After nine rounds, many of which were RUG Delver-ful — and of course misplayed, as is won’t in Legacy — there was the cut to Day 2. Some more Magic, with Pro Tour Avacyn Restored Champion Alex Hayne seeing the Top 4, was played and Death and Taxes won. Craig Wescoe would have had money riding on that outcome, but you have to be careful with betting and Magic.
After eating about 1500 calories in 10 minutes at the breakfast buffet 'tis time for #GPStras— Jacob Wilson (@JacobWilson95) April 13, 2013
Best thing about Euro Legacy GPs are the pimped out beauties we get to see on camera #gpstras— Paul Feudo (@plfeudo) April 13, 2013
(Maria) Brainstorm is already a good card. Don't add ponder's draw effect after resolving it. #GPSTRAS— Magic Judges (@MagicJudges) April 13, 2013
The amount of people playing 2 lands in the same turn on stream is too high #gpstras— Carlos Pal (@CPal90_MTG) April 13, 2013
Ripped a second land off my t1 ponder, so happy to see it I played it right away #gpstras— Raphael Levy (@hahamoud) April 13, 2013
Apparently everyone is new to Legacy and doesn't play with the cards. #gpstras Who knew?— Lisa Seelye (@thedoh) April 13, 2013
Won my last round to make day 2! 7-2 at #gpstras— Kirby Haugland (@Doctor_Atomic) April 13, 2013
Day 1 #GPStras coverage: 4 feature matches, 4 of which involved RUG delver, and 1 deck tech (3 guesses which deck...the first 2 don't count)— Kevin Costello (@kevcost) April 13, 2013
Lost the buble match to Death and Taxes... If only I had that whipflare... #gpstras— Thiago R. (@Snapcaster) April 14, 2013
#gpstras Perfect example why you don't crack your fetchlands liberatly right there. Nothing to do with luck for the D&T guy.— Pierre Liebsch (@Pierre_Liebsch) April 14, 2013
Just watched a #gpstras Top 8 game where MonoWhite D&T survived TWO Emrakul attacks and Griselbrand. Nice way to wake up— Emmett Gore (@TheGreenyTea) April 14, 2013
Called it! White Weenie. Best deck in Legacy. #GPStras— Craig Douglas Wescoe (@Nacatls4Life) April 15, 2013
