Modern. The state of the format has been a serious topic not only on Twitter but in recent articles by pros across the community. A wide range of suggestions are being offered up on how to nurture the format and keep it fresh: unbanning cards like Jace, the Mind Sculptor, banning more cards, making it an FNM option or replacing or adding to the SCG Legacy Opens. What is clear is that players like the ability to play their former standard decks in an eternal format. And Wizards is clearly behind Modern. With all this thinking going on about the state of Modern, be sure to leave a comment and let me know what you think the format needs to thrive.
@mtgaaron ha, that's a strange read for me as I love modern generally and have since right after PT Philly.— Marshall Sutcliffe (@Marshall_LR) November 5, 2012
@mtgaaron Modern needs big tournaments like SCG Opens so people have a reason to give a try. Where the format is supported it thrives.— Diego Natalino (@Thalugor) November 5, 2012
All this Modern GPs talk just reminded me of the situation in Mexico, where it is basically Extended so no one cares about the format.— Arturo Pineda (@OreoCorp) November 4, 2012
How to fix modern? Go back and play Gavin's OverExtended format— Jason Clark (@RealEvilGenius) November 5, 2012
@kstube I know. I'm hoping that the Valakut unbanning leads to more Unbannings. SDT, Jace, dredge stuff (not all).— Jason Clark (@RealEvilGenius) November 5, 2012
@kstube What do you think the best way to address that situation is?— ZachSellsMagic (@ZachSellsMagic) November 5, 2012
@kstube I'd think that rolling back some of the pre-bannings would help break the monotony.— ZachSellsMagic (@ZachSellsMagic) November 5, 2012
@gjtanner87 I guess that's part of my argument. Formats like Legacy/Vintage exist b/c they're compelling, not the incentive to play them.— Kranny (@kstube) November 5, 2012
@moxreuby Personally I think we need more low-level play. We started from the PT down, which is not a great way to make a format loveable.— Aaron Forsythe (@mtgaaron) November 5, 2012
@mtgaaron Aside from efforts like MM, you're managing Modern the same way you did w/Ext. Conservative and not bench marking similar formats.— Kranny (@kstube) November 5, 2012
@mtgaaron Modern is just a great format, despite existing problems. In just needs more tournament support, either at high and low level.— Valeriy Shunkov (@amartology) November 5, 2012
@mattystudios or unbannings...— David Snyder (@boostkilla) November 4, 2012
@kstube I rally hope there is a way for modern to become more than a PTQ format as I love it, but I can't see how it can be done— Gareth Tanner (@GJTanner87) November 5, 2012
@dreamtimedrinne Right. That's why I don't want "ban a whole bunch more cards" to be the real answer.— Aaron Forsythe (@mtgaaron) November 5, 2012
