The Star City Games Invitational brought out less than 300 players this time but still showcased seriously heavy-hitters battling it out for a few dollars in prize money and the right to call themselves the champ. Through a mixed format of Standard and Legacy, spells of all sorts flew. Meanwhile in the background, the Draft Opens were packed (rat) full and the Standard Open even brought a bit of intrigue to the table with some interesting card choices going the distance. While this may not have been a Pro Tour weekend, many of the plays and players we saw certainly proved themselves as pro caliber. From epic Storms to Naya Humans on the mill plan, this tournament won’t soon be forgotten by any who watched.
I hope I don't play bad tomorrow. So nervous as this is my highest level tournament I've ever played in. #SCGINVI— Will Bumgardner (@solplyr) December 14, 2012
