THINGS TO DO ON MTGO WHEN ITS DEAD
I found myself in the very common position of not really knowing what to play on stream this week, as Standard had already rotated on paper, but had not as of yet come to MTGO. This left me unwilling to play the stagnant and useless standard format, and tired of Block Constructed. I still had the Ajundi deck from last week, but we just did that a whole bunch. What is a man to do?? Thankfully, Wizards knows just what to do in the two weeks before a new set comes out; CUBE!! I’m not an avid cuber by any stretch, but I have been known to take a few down with the aggressive decks, and also really love the UG ramp decks that you can draft. I decided to join everyone else that was streaming cube, (albeit much more effectively than I was) and see what we could put together. If we did badly, or finished rounds early, we still had Modern! Perfect!
The best part about eternal formats like Modern is that they often don’t change too much. Sometimes, you do come across some pretty rogue modifications to existing archetypes, and sometimes you find people playing pet decks, but there are actually so many viable decks to be played in the format, that it’s never really a dead format. There is always that little bit of mystery and excitement when you first roll up to the opponent, and you anxiously wait to see what their first play is. Oddly enough, I got that same feeling during the Cube draft. I really had no idea what cards could come out of the opponents’ decks, and really had to try to play my own game. It seemed impossible to play around everything, so I tried to just play against what I saw.
Here are the 2 parts to the stream from Monday night. We had a blast.
Huge thanks to everyone that helped out, as I literally had almost no idea what I was trying to do during that Cube Draft. Thankfully, the Modern Games went much much better for us.
I have a very interesting announcement to make now. Tonight, we will be streaming a Theros Release Event. I’m unsure if it will be sealed or draft, but I can tell you that it will be exciting. The biggest reason for the excitement is that none other than Kenji Egashira, NumotTheNummy on Twitch will be joining us for some high level limited education. If you want to know what to do to win your Theros PTQs, then look no further. We’ve got exactly what you’re looking for. Come join us tonight, 9pm EST, www.twitch.tv/legitmtg. I’m bringing back the giveaways, so make sure you comment and share! Each night that I hit 100 viewers, and each 50 thereafter, I’ll be giving out random store credit and free cards! Spread the word!!
